Telehandlers are versatile lifting machines with the capability to perform many different functions, including forklift, crane and work platform. Available in different sizes, from around 4m up to 20m, they are suitable for most on-site lifting and materials handling requirements.
A range of accessories, including extension forks, rehandling buckets, brush attachments, tipping skips and lifting hooks ensures they can be used for a wide range of activities, making them a popular choice of equipment on construction sites.
If you hire any kind of telehandler, it is likely you will be responsible for loss or damage to the equipment during the hire period. In addition, it is usually a contractual requirement to arrange insurance for the machinery and provide evidence of this.
Accidental damage, fire, and theft are all tangible risks that can occur at any time. With a plant and machinery insurance policy, you will be protecting yourself from your contractual liability and will be ensuring you are compliant with the hire contract.
Should the worst happen, you can claim up to £100,000 in repair or replacement costs, and if you are responsible for paying continuing hire charges until the machine is repaired or replaced then that cover is included within our short term plant hire insurance policy up to a limit of £5,000.

More about usCan I take out insurance for plant hire for demolition purposes?
Many rental companies do not allow their telehandlers to be used for demolition, and we cannot provide telehandler insurance for machines used exclusively in this manner.
There are many construction projects that would require demolition as part of the contract. Where this is the case then it is likely that a breaker will be used, and this can be incorporated within our standard policy cover.
Where the contract is purely a demolition contract then, this would not be covered within our policy, and such work should be undertaken by professional demolition companies.
Demolition by nature carries a substantial risk if undertaken, and diggers can be easily damaged by inexperienced individuals. For these reasons, we cannot provide coverage for pure demolition contracts. If you are unsure, you can talk to a member of our team at any time and receive comprehensive answers to your questions. We also have an FAQ that answers many more of your questions.
